Princess Paws

Lots of snow this morning and early church meant the sidewalks were not cleared yet. We tried walking on the side of the road and following Steve, Miss Princess Paws did not like it. It was cold, salt on the roads, and messy. She stopped, lifted up her paws and wanted to turn around and go back home (me too!). Sighted guide to the sidewalk that was fluffy snow, she walked much better. Still difficult to navigate. We walked back home before Steve and not easy. The sidewalks are still not shoveled. Cricket walked slow as if she knew there were many steps outside of the church that we needed to navigate. We are home safe.

I realize these Princess Paws need boots to make it through the winter. We tried some on her last year, and she didn't like them so I didn't push it. (Pantera, my first guide, didn't mind the snow or ice and walked right through it. I had some nice cream (mushers I think it was called?) that I put on her paws when we arrived that helped so her paws didn't get cracked.) We have months left of winter around here. Any recommendations?

Home with the harness off in our yard she is running around. She stops at the door to pose for the camera and get her princess paws wiped off. Good Girl Cricket. We both want to go South.

Lots of people I know have liked the Ruffwear brand boots. I am currently planning to get a pair of the Grip-Trex ones for Jess since James' old boots don't fit her. They have a pro-purchase program with the company you can apply for if you have a guide or service dog and they give you a 50% discount on the boots, which is an excellent deal.

I have the same problem. OJ doesn't mind walking in it but I don't want his paws to freeze and its ice i'm more worried about.

Thanks, Katrin. I will check into that source.

Jen - Yes, understand. Sounds like you are dealing with similar weather.

I have the Grip Trex Bark 'N Boots made by Ruffwear for Jack - I actually just posted about them last week. :-) He was trained in his boots so he's used to wearing them, but I'm sure Cricket would get used to them with some practice. Definitely check into the discount Katrin mentioned though because those dog boots are not cheap. Jack's are advertised at $60, but GDA provided them to me free of charge for him.

Woof! Woof! I'm back from my Holiday break. Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Snow ... how FUN!!! Yes I did use Ruffwear boots but one of them did not last long ... so my mom made one for me. or ... I just avoid walking especially when the sidewalks are salted. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar

We don't have any boots for our dogs here. Ushi rushes through the snow lol. Haven't been able to work her for the past three or 4 days cause it's been so bad. Ushi doesn't seem to mind, but I want it gone though! Total pain.

Xxx.
