Fashion Fun

I recently was asked to spend some time helping a friend choose an outfit for an event. We had so much fun!   My friend said she was asked by a friend of hers (are you following me?) ... but how does she (meaning me) do it if she doesn't see much.   My friend laughed and said - I don't know but she was really helpful and asked me how I felt a lot :).   Inspite of not being able to see much, I am a real visual person.  When I learned braille, I first visualized it before learning to read it through my hands.  When I decorate, I get a real visual of the area in my head before deciding what to hang where.  I have my yard visualized in my head.  My favorite grocery store layout is visualized.   I do the same with an outfit I am wearing.  I start with thinking of the 'mood' that I am in - do I want something fun, colorful, or classy?  Then, I generally decide on one item of clothing to begin. For example, in this outfit I decided I wanted to wear this orange and tan sweater and designed the rest of my outfit around it. I thought something a little lighter color as a jacket would work and then something a little darker for the pants. Rolling sleeves is a fun option for a jacket to dress it down a bit.  I generally go to my  jewelery last to pull it together.  I decided to wear some metallic accents which then led me to my shoes to match.
When I get my haircut, I feel how they have styled it and then if I like it (have good feedback) -- then I duplicate that 'feel' when I style it.  I remembered this purse had the same colors as my sweater so I opted for the purse as a little bold accessory.  When I shop with my daughter, Natalie , I learn in a few minutes what is the fun new trend (love it).  Because the mirror is not helpful, I do a quick visual in my mind from top to bottom of what I am wearing to make sure it all matches.  If I've tried something a little creative, I try to get someone who is sighted to give me their opinion.  If no one is available, I often just take a risk!

You have more style and fashion sense than I do. I love that you and Nat always look so cute and seize the day by wearing darling clothes that make you "feel" good! Often getting dressed for me is a matter of "ugh, what should I wear today." I need to start visualizing an outfit :)
Thanks for inspiring me always!

I have wondered at times how you plan your outfits and shop! Your visualization sense is top notch. My dressing questions are more along the lines of "should I wear blue jeans or black jeans today" and "am I going to feel too hot/cold in this shirt". And even though I could have/make a different purse for every day of the year, I pretty much use the same one every single day of the year!

You are such a fashion plate Becky.
I could really use a few pointers from you. Living in the northwest, I find that most of my clothes are earth tones in color. With my love of dogs & the outdoors, I find I'm usually wearing hiking pants or jeans & some sort of fleece top or outdoor wear. How boring is that?

Amazing.

It is really true when one sense becomes weaker

Another sense becomes stronger

I feel that I'm regular in everything. I don't have an edge :(
