Ethel

It was snowing as we left for the Give me 5 Run this morning.  It seemed to clear for 35 minutes and we had a great run for a great cause.

Steve's #1 to me and took Second Place in his category today in the 5K. Category age 50 - 99!!  Super fun medal and flowers.  Good job, Steve.
Shannon and I had a great time running, too.  I am so grateful for her friendship and the fun we have together.  We ran our best time, yet.
We ran with the name of a child in Zambia on our shirt. I  ran for Ethel today. Ethel is 15 years old. When she was 7 years old, Ethel began to care for her mother who was dying of AIDS. Ethel cared for her mother for three years until she passed away. Ethel remembers praying with her mother every night. Before her mother died, she made Ethel promise that she would receive an education and become a doctor. Although Ethel is only 15 years old, she has seen the impact of AIDS. About two years ago, her besst friends died from AIDS as well. Ethel works hard in school, espeically in math and cience. She also likes to read and write. Her favorite thing is to read the scriptures. She enjoys crocheting rugs and purses and bags in her spare time. She is a talented singer and dancer. She's been on my mind since and I want to do more for her.

Ouch for Retinitis Pigmentosa.  We were at a store this afternoon (ordering some new business cards that I am loving), and I bent down to pick up something and my face banged hard on the counter.  I was trying to be tough but tears came.  Ouch - sometimes it just smacks you. My cheek is sore and bruised. The kind store manager apologized for his counter :).

We were able to spend the evening with Kendall - movie:  King's Speech (loved it) and dinner at his favorite - Chilis.

Congrats to Steve and to you for your best time yet! Sorry about the ouchie on your cheek. For a couple weeks, you can make up some good stories to tell about how you got it! "You should see the other guy," etc.

The King's Speech was a wonderful movie! I know that sounds like the least important thing to zoom in on first, but I definitely sympathize with your feelings of wanting to do more for Ethel.
