Birthday Giveaway, #1

It is a very chilly evening here - 19 degrees. Brrrrrr. Bright spot: January is my birthday month and it seems the celebrating starts early (actual birthday is January 15th). We recently celebrated with some friends with dinner and a movie: The Tourist.  I went to lunch with a friend today, tomorrow,  family this weekend - so much fun!  My friend, Christy, and I went to Hip & Humble today. We love that store. It is a little bit of sensory overload with so many unique things that are all over, and we hope a tail doesn't knock over anything.
I love a birthday that includes much connecting with others - visits, lunch dates, dinner dates, emails, cards, phone calls, and comments on the blog.   So, in the spirit of celebration, I am offering a Giveaway for my Birthday.

First, a picture of something we found at Hip & Humble that I just must declare Happy Birthday to me.   It has found a place on the window ledge in our dog/computer/laundry room!

(A plaque that says:  My dog has taught me a great lesson in life ... shed a lot.)

On to the giveaway!  Christy found this book:  1001 Ways to Live in the Moment by Barbara Ann Kipfer.  The title pulled me in and it would be a fun book to have sitting out with its cute cover.   We read some of it in the store and laughed and enjoyed.

So, to enter this giveaway.  Leave a comment (a great birthday present :) and Share a tip on what you do to live in the moment or one of your favorite birthday memories.

Giveaway ends on January 18th and will be selected by random.org.  Happy Day!

Holy Twinners! I was at H&H the other day and picked up that very same book and looked at it! I almost bought it but then Layla started messing stuff up in the store and I got distracted!
And Happy Birthday by the way! Except-- don't think that's all you're going to get for your birthday from me!
As for what I do to live in the moment with Layla .... I ask myself "what would you want your mom to do if you were a child again." so if I'm cleaning and she brings me a book... I ask myself how I would feel if I were her and my mom chose cleaning over sitting down and reading with me. Easy choice.

Well Happy Birthday! January is my and my PIT, Rocco's, birthday month as well. :) Have a Happy One!

Oh, as for living in the moment...well, I don't know if this counts, but any time I feel that I chose the wrong school I walk the cobbled streets of Aberdeen and soak in it's Scotland beauty and think if I would be this happy if I went to a different school even if I was still able to raise for GDB while at University. The answer is usually no (though a puppy would definitely make the experience better). :)

Happy Birthday! Sounds like you are celebrating in style with all the ones/things you love! That's the best way to celebrate!

Celebrations are always better when they're extended. Glad your's is lasting a while. Happy Birthday! Enjoy.

When I become aware that my mind has drifted, or that I'm rushing through time without savoring it, I breathe deeply. I enjoy my breath which reminds me that all I really have is this moment and why not truly live it.

Happy happy birthday to you. Fun to celebrate with those you love! I haven't been able to catch up on your blog for quite a while so it's fun to "tune in" on your birthday week...best wishes to you! ;-)

It can be hard to live in the moment at times...but I like to think of what there is in this very moment, that I'm thankful for. :-D That usually helps!

Happy birthday this Saturday!! My tip for living in the moment is simple: when someone comes to mind, I call them, or better yet, write a note and stick it in the mail. I imagine them pulling an envelope out of their mailbox (that ISN'T a bill) and reading that someone was thinking about them. Not too many people still send thoughts out via snail mail. I have a file of notes from others. When I'm down, I get it out and read till I feel better. Works every time!!

Happy Birthday Becky. Since my birthday is in January too, I follow your lead & celebrate the entire month. Desma's birthday is 2 days before mine, so I think we'll celebrate by playing in the snow up at Mt. Hood.
A fond birthday memory was the year one of my best friends traveled from Indiana to celebrate my birthday with me. We skied the mountains of Oregon. What fun!!

Happy Birthday! After I broke my leg in three places three and a half years ago at work, I avoid stairs whenever possible because they make my legs hurt. So I walk around to the basement of the building. It makes me more present in the moment, and I have observed wild turkeys, deer, many interesting birds, and a raccoon! I also love observing my collie, Cubbie, and taking pictures of him. Blessings to you and Cricket, Gayle

Happy Birthday sweet Becky! I'm so glad you had a fun day despite the freezing temperatures! That saying is so perfect for you. Love it!

Hmmm....living in the moment. Probably just enjoying my baby right now. Knowing he's my last has helped me to just spend lots of time doing absolutely nothing with him. Holding him, playing with him, smiling and talking to him, smelling his sweet baby smell. I probably kiss him over 100 times a day. A lot of times I think "I should really be getting something productive done right now" - and then I remember that he'll only be this little for a little longer and I let the dishes sit and kiss him some more. :)

Happy Birthday, tomorrow, Becky! We're both Becky's with Januaray birthdays! I LOVE that plaque! And to enter your contest....hmmm.... Let me think...One thing that comes to mind would kind of work for both living in the moment AND a favorite birthday memory. Long story short: My husband and I celebrated both our birthdays and our anniversary all at one party quite a few years ago. He gave a little speech and part was said directly to me: "One of the reasons you're so short is because I lean on you so much." (Isn't that beautiful? He's 6 foot tall and I'm 5 foot nothing!)
