Happy Day

My day started with my three and four year-old clients. Oh my, these are sweet little boys that are actually starting to talk to me. A couple more clients then, my mom's group that I just love. Then, lunch with these two fun girls! Isn't Layla (and Shan) just the cutest! Her smile and giggle is pure delight.
A busy afternoon of phone calls and then a bike ride with Steve. A question for you dog lovers: Do you leave music on when you leave your dog? I like to leave music on for Cricket Girl to enjoy while we are on our bike ride. Do you think she likes it or does it just ease my guilt of leaving her? Our evening ended with Steve joining us for yoga! He has some tendonitis and yin/yang yoga is a great help for that. Its fun to have him join us for one class a week.

Hope you had a Happy Day!

I think that leaving music or TV on for the dogs is TOTALLY our guilt talking. I don't think they care. I don't think that it "fools" them into thinking the house is not stupid. They are not stupid.

That said, I always leaving the radio on when I leave the dog at home alone! Unless it is a bad radio day. Living out in the sticks, some days, we get no radio reception outside the bathroom (Yes, the bathroom, with no exterior windows is the only room with consistent radio signal). If it is a bad radio day, I leave the TV on. They are allowed to watch Food Network without supervision. I don't want anything with gun shots or scary stuff, or the naughty dogs that are sometimes on Animal Planet. So, they get Food Network :)

I do know for dogs that are for example reactive to outside noises and get barky or frightened about it, leaving a TV or radio on can help to make it so they can't hear some of those outside noises and therefore they don't get as reactive since they don't hear the noise and so bark less and get less frightened. But for your average non reactive dog, I don't think they really care.

YES we leave music on when we leave our new puppy....and even when we have to corral any of the horses in the arena

I've heard that if a dog is scared of fireworks, for example, then music can help with that.

I love happy busy days!!! When you run-where is Cricket?

Sounds like a great day!

I often leave music on for Alfie, not because I feel guilty, more just for fun (I'd have to say -- my fun, because I doubt he cares!) He usually gets classical -- we have a great classical station here in Austin!

Thanks for your comments. Glad to hear I am not the only one that gives their dog a hug, kibble, and turns the music to my favorite station!

Torie; in answer to your question about where Cricket is when I am running. She stays home. We invited her to join us and run on leash by the side of Steve. She didn't like it - perhaps she is used to pulling.

Alfie, that is awesome that you enjoy classical. Maybe Cricket should change stations.
