Our Vision

Yesterday I had the chance to meet two lovely women for lunch. What brought us together was the fact that we had all received the Ethel Louise Armstrong Scholarship to help us with our advanced degrees. I hear her inspiring story and wonder ... could I have done what she did? I want to believe, Yes!
As I've mentioned, receiving this scholarship and subsequent emails and calls from this fabulous organization helped me push through my master's program. I had some incredible mentors -- other women with disabilities following their dreams. We have come so far in Ms. Armstrong's vision: “Total inclusion of people with disabilities in every aspect of society can and will happen as all of us embrace this vision together. Anything less than this is just not acceptable.” Our lunch went by fast as we talked about this vision. I look forward to the chance the four of us (you can see Cricket trying to be included) can meet again.

So exciting and uplifting to meet other women who battled the odds to follow their dreams. Your quote from Ms. Armstrong reminds me of Martin Luther King Jr's words, "We are all caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly." We all need others to help us become who we hope to be.
