Out of my comfort zone ...

I LOVE to travel and explore new places and also visit friends and family. We (Cricket and I) are off to San Diego today and will be thrown out of my nice little comfort zone. I will be reminded how 'blind' I really am. I find when I am in my familiar routine, I know what my surroundings are and fill in the gaps with memorization, etc.

Cricket and I are travelling with a dear friend that will have new experiences as she has never travelled with us and will learn so much about me and what blindness entails. We will laugh and find the humor in it as well as possibly experience some frustrations and even overwhelm. I wonder how many times will it take me to remember the key components of the hotel room, how to find the conference details, and so many other daily tasks that I take for granted when in my routine.

Cricket and I will explore new places and explain Guide Dogs and blindness to many new people. I will feel insecure at times, yet Cricket and I will enhance our bonding as we rely on each other in the new terrain. I can't wait to get on the plane.

Cricket: Because of you ...I fearlessly face the world; I know I am unconditionally loved; learn with curiosity and enthusiasm. Mary Anne Radmacher. (Thankfully I am unconditionally loved by many but found this did apply nicely to Cricket and her ability to help me go off on adventures)

Hope you have a great time and we admire so much your desire and willingness to try and do new things. There are many people fully sighted who won't go any place out of their comfort zone and I think that is too bad. we are grateful for your adventurous spirit.

Love you

Hi Becky & Cricket,
How long are you staying in San Diego? Have a chance to maybe get together this time? Give me a buzz:)

Hey ... are you sure you didn't sign up for these classes just for me???? j/k
Hate having you gone, but love the reason you're there. Give Cricket a BIG HUG from the Morrill's and I'll see you VERY soon.
Love across the miles

Becky, I love this blog. I am writing a series of articles about working dogs for Young Post, the kid newspaper from the South China Morning Post. There are no guide dogs in Hong Kong so I'd like to feature Cricket (and you!) in the article. Could we exchange a few questions and answers via email? My email is ellenwhyte@lepak.com Hope to hear from you.
