Dear Birthday Girl

Happy Birthday to a very amazing six year old! We are celebrating you today Cricket. I don't think the baker at Costco quite understood the significance of Thank you, Cricket on your cake.
Cricket, thank you for 4 1/2 great years together as my guide, friend, buddy, and eyes. You have kept me safe each day, and I love you and appreciate you. 

We will celebrate today with yoga in the morning (be aware they may even announce it in class that its your birthday), a Guide Dog Alumni Board Conference Call, leaving you for a bike ride (sorry, but it is supposed to finally be warm and this afternoon will be just the time!), and a party tonight to celebrate YOU! 

Super fun side note:  I requested from Guide Dogs for the Blind some information pamphlets and guess who is their cover girl ... Cricket!  They used a picture they had on file for their What do you know about Blindness?  brochure.   Here's a few questions to try to answer from the brochure:

Sometime within the next ____ years, ,someone you know will lose their vision.  (1 in 28 Americans over 40).

Approximately ___________ cases of low vision and blindness occur each year, and that number is expected to double over the next 25 years.
