My little red tether is my anchor in running with my friends. A beautiful guide dog has been my tether/anchor in mobility and independence for 17 years: 1. Pantera 2. Cricket, and now my beautiful 3. Georgina (Georgie). A life of family and friends is my joy and anchor in life.

Our next Step

Dear Cricket,

You have worn your Retired Collar proudly now for the past month.  I have been wearing a lot of orange lately, too.  Is it the fun color for spring or more about celebrating you :)?
We have transitioned from being almost constantly together and you watching out for my safety to retired life.  As hard as it has been to leave you home the last couple months most of the time, I hope it has prepared you for our next stage.  I have loved watching your bond with Steve grow stronger as he feeds you and takes you for walks. Pantera, my first guide, has a special place in my heart. Cricket, you have a very special place in my heart. I hope you know how much I love you
Now, it is time for you to relax, sleep in if you'd like, run around at the park, go for walks with Steve, and get ready to welcome the new member of our family - a sweet, energetic new guide dog that I am ready to open my heart to and enjoy the freedom of a guide once again.

I think we are both ready, Cricket.  Take good care of Steve and the family in the next two weeks.  They need you!  Encourage Steve to catch us up on this blog while I am away :).

Love you forever, Cricker girl.

Thank you to my amazing friend and colleague, Melanie, who left this special gift!  All my colleagues wrote "What I love about Becky is ... "  A treasure for life.  I am going to miss them so much!

What a special chapter you & Cricket are both entering into your lives. I have enjoyed reading about your adjustment to retirement. Sounds like she is doing well in retirement. Looking forward to hearing about your new guide dog.

We are excited to meet your new guide in two weeks in CALIF, but the spot Cricket has in our hearts will always be there.
