Cricket. Keeping me safe

On a regular work day, Cricket has simple guide work - walk into the office, lay around during my appointments, go for a walk during the day - often the same route, off to lunch at times, walk to pick up the mail, some more lying around during appointments, and being picked up for a ride home. Other days, are more exciting for her with travels to new places, and new routes to learn. Infact, next week, Cricket and I will be hopping on a plane for an adventure.

Today, during our routine of walking up to the grocery store. In preparation for our group on Mindfulness we needed to buy some candy - our group members were to have an experience on mindfully eating chocolate. Try it. Taste it ever so slowly enjoying each bite. We were starting to cross the street when shortly Cricket pulled me back. A car sped through trying to beat the light making a left hand turn. Gave her a hug as we arrived safely to the other side of the street.

As we were checking out at the grocery store, the clerk asked me if Cricket was in training. I said no, she was my guide dog and she said HOW FUN IS THAT! I thought indeed it is fun to have a dog that is keeping me safe and is just so darn cute.

Its a little early, but I am enjoying pulling out my sweaters for the Fall Season.  My colleague came in wearing a white skirt ... fun, classy - she totally pulled it off after Labor Day!

In yoga class sometimes my yoga teacher will read a story about children who were asked to concentrate on an orange and where it came from and what it would do for their bodies. Then they were invited to slowly eat it while thinking about all the aspects of it; the spray when they peel it, the taste, the juice running down their hands. It's always made me want to try it.

Also, I get so frustrated with people who don't drive while thinking of other people. they'd be all of five minutes later if they'd just slow down and stop when they're suppose to. I've almost gotten hit a few times by cars with scowling drivers who seem to have forgotten their driver's training and the part when the teacher said that pedestrians have the right of way. Good girl Cricket!

I've been thinking lately about how I tend to gobble my food without even tasting it. It's almost like I really only taste the first bite, and then the rest is just auto-pilot, even when it's something I really love. How sad to think I'm missing out on enjoying the flavor and texture and aroma as I eat. Even when I'm thinking about trying to enjoy all those things while I eat, I still find it's hard to do!
