Live Your Dash

I've been reflecting on two wonderful women who have touched my life and truly 'lived their dash'.  If you haven't read the poem by Linda Ellis.
I want the bracelet:  Live your dash with passion. 

Yesterday after leaving my cousin's funeral, I learned that my friend Linda had died.  I reflected on the similar attributes of these two beautiful women: always a smile on their faces,  resilient women with physical challenges to carry their whole lives, service centered, can't recall a negative comment about anyone from either of their mouths -- incredible women.   I recall my last conversations with both of them:  such love. 

Debra was my cousin - close to my age.  It seemed we just picked up where we left off from childhood days.  Whether it was a year since we'd talked or fortunately in the last year more frequently.  I recall our last visit no matter how much we tried to inquire about how she was doing the conversation kept turning to laughter, children, reminiscing and away from her.   Steve and I left their home that night looking forward to the next time and indicating what a special loving spirit was in their home.   

Linda was my rock in many ways in helping me navigate through the blind technology and also encouraging me to hold my head high as we giggled about applying makeup.    I recall one of our last 'lessons' together.  It was a beautiful, special afternoon, and I knew it may be one of our last together.  We talked about her dying, we talked about the books she wanted me to read, we talked about our times together, and her celebrating my journey.   I got home excited to share my new knowledge with Steve.  Oops, I tried and then had to call her up.  She patiently guided me through the process.  

Thank you Debra and Linda for making such an impact on so many lives with your 'dash.'
