Hungry but doing well

Thank you for your comments, emails, visits and phone calls. I found myself thinking my I am blessed. Thanks to Steve for being there every step of the way - he helped distract me in the waiting area and had me laughing.

The surgery yesterday went well with my dental implant although there was the addition of gum grafting that had to occur. The combination of where the implant is located = no solid foods for 4 weeks. I am hoping at my next visit in 2 1/2 weeks maybe he'll lessen that 'sentence'! I don't want to repeat the procedure so plan to be a good patient.

When I returned home and was 'out', Steve tells me Cricket raced around the bed pretty concerned. Now, she is reassured that everything is okay and so she's bored!

Any good suggestions for liquid foods are welcome! Steve has gone to get me a Keva which always hits the spot.

I'm realizing how many foods are connected with the holidays that I'm going to miss. Maybe I can freeze some to eat next month or I can read about them vicariously through comments about what is your favorite foods.

4 weeks?! That's a tough sentence to "swallow". It seems like an awfully long amount of time, and yes, I hope your doctor will reduce it to 2 weeks, too, which seems way more reasonable.

But you'll have lots to distract you, with your family visiting and holiday festivities. Hopefully, the time will go by really quickly.

I can only think of the usual non-solid foods: broth soups, milkshakes, jello, yogurt, applesauce, pudding. I love butternut squash soup--that's something you can eat!

Wow, 4 weeks! That's rough. Glad everything went well though.

Cookies are one of my favorite holiday treats, but then again, I love cookies year round. ;-) Maybe you can get some cookie flavored milkshakes.

Oh my gosh! There won't be anything left of that tiny self after 4 weeks! You better take in some serious calories in milkshakes sister!
I hate jello, but I have a super yummy recipe for a creamy lime flavored "jello-ish pudding" I'd love to make you some and bring it over or just email you the recipe? Hope you're doing ok. If Crickers needs a play date she can come keep Kashi busy for a few days! We'd love to babysit!

Wow! I don't think I was told to eat only liquids when I had mine done, so I don't have any suggestions for you.

I also am going to be missing out big time on Christmas goodies! Kaylee is sensitive to any dairy in my diet so I can't have ANYTHING with that in it. Chocolate is unfortunately filled with milk products :(

Good luck!

Thanks to all - yep double checked with the dr (hoping I was hearing wrong -- same answer) Thanks for your suggestions! Yes, Shannon that recipe would be wonderful. I am sure Cricket would have a great time with Kashi - let's make a play date for them.
Brittany - oh sad, no chocolate!
L^2 - I'm with you love cookies and milkshakes. Mimi - Yes, I love soups and it is a fun time with lots of happy distractions.

This gal had gastric bypass surgery and has lots of ideas on her blog about pureed foods and tons of yummy recipes for shakes and smoothies - sounds like those things might be relevant for you right about now.

Four weeks, good grief, hope you can get in enough protein.

All the best,

Hi, maybe you could puree your meals or instead of cooking meat in a frying pan, make all your usual meals into soups! I know that pureed food makes it seem like you're babying yourself, but I guess if you don't want to loose to much weight then I suppose it's the way to go... for the protein though I suggest egg flips.

Basically, pour yourself a glass of milk. Then crack an egg into a small cup and beat with a fork until the egg is all mushed up. Then gradually mix the egg into the milk with that fork so then it becomes like a milkshake! Don't do it too quick or it'll curdle. Maybe get your husband to help with this because I'm trying to remember if you've got to separate the whilte for the yoke. I'd ask him for his advice on this. When it's done properly it apparently tastes yummy although I've never tasted it. I hope your recover fully from this and please keep well! You could send Cricket over here so she and Troy could play? Just kidding but I wish!

When I can chew because of my migraines (chewing action hurts like all get out after a certain point) I use this canned protein powder from Whole Foods. It tastes Horrible, like pureed broccoli, but since I can't have dairy, soy or eggs it is basically all that works for getting enough protein. I seriously hope you have other options since drinking that stuff for 4 wks would be rather gross I think, usually the max I have to do it is a week and that is certainly enough! Glad to hear you are feeling better though!
