My little red tether is my anchor in running with my friends. A beautiful guide dog has been my tether/anchor in mobility and independence for 17 years: 1. Pantera 2. Cricket, and now my beautiful 3. Georgina (Georgie). A life of family and friends is my joy and anchor in life.

Soaring

As I began getting ready for a conference today, I realize the date is October 30th. (The conference is amazing and I am learning so much. I think Cricket is a little bored, however.) This is Pantera's birthday (my first guide who died 1 1/2 years ago). I smile and the thoughts that came to my mind is -- Love ya pantera, you helped me soar to greater heights.
I had the privilege of being Pantera's puppy raiser's matron of honor and Pantera was dog of honor.
The picture above is the night before she died. I learned so much from Pantera. She worked until she no longer was passionate about her work and then she let me know at age 11 she was ready to retire and with dignity and class she turned over the ranks to my current guide. Cricket looked up to Pantera and felt of her love and support. Stepping in as guide two seems a little challenging but Pantera made it such a beautiful, smooth transition for us all. Love ya girl and thanks for so many amazing memories and giving me the confidence to Soar and not let this blindness thing hold me back.

Pantera will always hold a special place in my heart. Not only was she one of my first foster dogs that came into my home, but she brought us together as friends. She was an incredible dog.

I met Pantera when I met you! I learned to love you both very quickly. I can only imagine how you miss her. How very blessed you are to have Cricket in your life now. I can "read in between the lines" how much she adores you. Bless you, my friend. You see better than most people who have "perfect" vision. Hmmmmmm ... now there's something to ponder!

How sweet you were able to spend her last hours of life loving one another.
