Right by my side ...

Sometimes with blindness (and without) we search for things that end up being right by our side. A good friend w/RP, Paul, shared with me one time his ten second rule ... if he loses something he searches for it and if he can't find it in 10 seconds he moves on with his task and eventually it often turns up (the missing measuring spoon that has been moved over just a little bit on the counter, etc) I laugh because sometimes I will 'lose' Cricket and find her right by my side. This morning I was calling for her (in the house) and didn't hear her coming... finally there was this little nudge on my leg as if she was saying - right here! It gives her job security, right.

Yes, yes!
I take Mirage out to potty, get distracted, picking a few blooms of lily, look far and widde to spot her. Then I call her to come and what do you know she is right in front of me.
This RP trip is a hoot at times .-)
When I drop something I lay on the floor and scan the horizon, haven't tried this on the countertop.tee hee
Be well!
Love, Susan and Mirage

Susan -- Yes, you can relate! One thing I like about when something is dropped on the floor - Cricket will usually go over to it and give me a clue where it is.

Wouldn't it be a trip if they could incorporate just a teeny bit of CCI dog training in there, so if you drop something they could get it for you??? I sometimes take lunch up to the classes at the North Central region of CCI and love to watch those puppies in action - I love to watch them carry an egg in the relay races they have. In such races, the dogs and their partners walk up to this table, get some item (eggs, sandwiches in baggies, dumb bells) and have to carry it back across the finish line. It is so cute - esp when it is a class full of kids!

I would love to learn more about the CCI -- I think that is truly incredible - the training you describe sounds amazing!
